Kyle Farnsworth has been suspended for 3 games despite the fact that he didn’t even successfully hit Manny Ramirez. I know Bob Watson is trying to go off of intent, but it’s pretty difficult to justify suspending someone over an incident where the player in question was not thrown out of the game. If the umpire thought Farnsworth was throwing at Manny’s head, he could (and should) have thrown him out immediately. But he didn’t, and I think that has to count for something.
Even Manny himself doesn’t agree with the decision:
“He don’t deserve that,” Ramírez said. “He was just protecting his players. You know we hit [Alex Rodriguez] the game before.”
Manny then went on to say he deserved to be hit because he’s a show-boating clown. Well, at least that’s what he should have said.
