Some owners may be crying for a salary cap from a competitive standpoint, but the reality is the baseball playoff system levels the playing field in many ways. Sure, big payroll teams have an advantage in the regular season and can often use money to cover up mistakes, which small market teams can’t do.
But the bottom line is that to win in baseball, you have to be well run and catch a few breaks. This is true for the Yankees, Red Sox, Twins, and Pirates. It’s true for everyone.
